Prototype

I highly anticipated this game for about a year and pre-ordered it, I believed it to be a definite contender for game of the year 09, I bought prototype and at first it delivered everything I expected like power, speed and graphics, but it wasn't long before I began to pick flaws within the game play. It quickly became apparent that the military had been spammed with rocket launcher and cannons which in turn when seen begin constantly bombarding you which merged with the predictably average camera angles, make avoiding the military and attacking both frustrating and difficult. Don't get me wrong, the game is impressive such as the number of enemies / civilians / vehicles on screen at once, the storyline itself with the web of intrigue (a chain of memories which need to be uncovered) was magnificent, I thoroughly enjoyed the plot and uncovering the conspiracy behind Gentek and Alex Mercer. Don't get me wrong, the game is impressive such as the number of enemies / civilians / vehicles on screen at once, the storyline itself with the web of intrigue (a chain of memories which need to be uncovered) was magnificent, I thoroughly enjoyed the plot and uncovering the conspiracy behind Gentek and Alex Mercer. The variation of powers was also impressive and the slight choice of how to attempt a mission also, even though the best ways seemed quite obvious and linear. But issues within the game play such as lazy ideas like the super soldiers (that's right bigger bulkier humans in case you felt too strong) mixed with their ability to see through your disguises begin to make your powers seem inadequate. The infection although ruining Manhattan aesthetically does provide some amusing free roam but other than that just makes the city a bit messy and aggravating to wander because of military involvement (it was only a day before I put GTA IV back in for a relaxing, fun free roam). The game also includes a variety of challenges which can be amusing to an extent but overall just adds to the misery which are the trophies, there a small number of trophies in comparison with other games though, I personally gathered over 50% in two days but platinum doesn't seem worth the hassle of replaying through the game another couple of times. Overall the game is amusing for a few hours, but after only 20 hours of game play I'm finished with it to the point I can't be bothered to play it anymore and have decided to try Infamous. If it's a choice between the two, buy Infamous but if you generally want this game, wait till it lowers in price or buy a second hand one to avoid maximum disappointment.

I received the game and played the first couple of missions............... I was gutted, I couldnt run very fast or glide, and running up the buildings wasnt much fun, I wasnt able to string the combos together like the videos i had seen.

I kept playing and this is when I was rewarded, I simply needed to get used to the controls, after I unlocked the increased speed, jump and glide abilities, I was running jumping and gliding like a pro, It was the best fun I had had in ages.

This is truly a great game, never have I felt soooooo powerful, trying to run away from a relentless Army Gunship only to jump round a corner and shapeshift into a member of the public, and watch the gunship search for me, was something I could do all day.

The upgrade system is also good, in normal games like this, you dont really care about upgrading because all it does is give increased attack power etc............. (which you barely even notice anyway) but this.............each upgrade is tactical, do you go for increased movement speed to evade pursuers ? or go for boosted defense, each upgrade you genuinly want to get. A particular mention has to go to the hammerfist upgrade that allows you to throw your heavy hand (like a human hammertoss) catapulting you through the air, and if you can destroy a helicopter on the way then even better.

The story isnt out of this world, but to be honest I dont even care Im too busy having fun, but it is cool to see the infection take more of a hold as the game goes on.

All in all this game is worthy of the 5 stars, I have played and enjoyed some of the most hyped games this year, but this is one of the best, maybe because im a superhero fan, i have enjoyed it more, but I cannot deny this game is unreal, you will rarely kill and enemy in the same way twice, or with as much fun.

The best superhero game without a shadow of a doubt.
